Welcome to Seismic Links

I make no predictions about this blog. The learning curve is a bit steep, so it may take a little time to come up to speed.

In short, the idea for this site is to evaluate the hottest (if only for a moment) search terms. I want to understand the underpinnings of search engine optimization. Where this will take me cannot be predicted. When I first designed a website in the mid 1990s I was immediately besieged by sales pitches for services that would give my site huge traffic. I tried a few. Needless to say, they were mostly disappointing.

As time went on, I found some things, like pay-per-click, that got some results. There was also a piece of advice here and there about how to make your site search-friendly. And recently, Google has opened its doors to the masses with its Webmaster tools. A recent collateral design contract with FastSearch, as they negotiating their acquisition by Microsoft, gave me a bit more insight into the mechanisms of search. Now it's time for some experiments; time to play mad scientist, and hopefully not get blown up.

Your comments and advice are welcome.
