(Thank you, Star Trek, for the title of this page.)
In short, the idea for this blog is to evaluate the hottest (if only for a moment) search terms. I want to understand the underpinnings of search engine optimization. Where this will take me, cannot be predicted. When I first designed a website in the mid 1990s I was immediately besieged by sales pitches for services that would give my site huge traffic. I tried a few. Needless to say, they were mostly disappointing.
As time went on, I found a couple of things, like pay-per-click, that achieved some results. There were also pieces of advice here and there about how to make your site search-friendly. And recently, Google has drawn back the curtain for the masses with its Webmaster tools. A recent collateral design contract with FastSearch, as they were negotiating their acquisition by Microsoft, gave me a bit more insight into the mechanisms of search. Now it's time for some experiments; time to play mad scientist, time to be "…boldly going"(James Tiberius Kirk).
Your comments and advice are welcome.
